We provide support services for all women and children in Central Australia who have experienced or at risk of experiencing domestic, family and sexual violence. This includes trans women, non-binary people and women in same sex relationships. Our service aims to be respectful and inclusive space for all.
The Outreach Team provides a specialist and pro-active case management service, working with women and children to achieve goals around their safety, risk assessment and safety planning. WoSSCA is a confidential service and Case Workers at WoSSCA can explain to women their mandatory reporting responsibilities in the Northern Territory.
The other support the Outreach Team provides include:
Remote
The Outreach Team aims to travel to the remote communities of Atitjerre, Mt Liebig, Ntaria, Papunya, Ti Tree, Yuelamu and Yuendumu once a month to work with women and children in their community.
Court Support
The Outreach team has a Victims Support and Advocacy Services (VSAS) worker who supports women when they have domestic violence related court. We know that court can be a difficult experience for women so this worker advocates and works alongside women to have their voice heard throughout this process.
Women’s Safety Workers
The Women’s Safety Workers, work with female partners of the men attending the Men’s Behaviour Change Group through Tangentyere Council. The support provided includes on-going safety checks, safety planning and case management with the female partners.
Domestic, Family & Sexual Violence Housing Pathway Program
This program is coordinated between Community Housing Central Australia and WoSSCA to assist women who are at risk of homelessness due to domestic, family and sexual violence. The program supports women to move into and maintain a subsidised affordable private tenancy. This includes the provision of case management services. Please note this program is not open to external referrals.
Risk Assessment is how we figure out what is happening for someone and our response. We know that it can be hard to talk about domestic, family and sexual violence so our priority is providing a comfortable and safe space where women feel comfortable and supported to share their stories.
Our Case Workers work alongside women to make a plan for their safety. A safety plan can be easy to use, is based on what is happening for women and what women are already doing to keep themselves and their family safe. The staff at WoSSCA can talk with women about their safety plan.
Our Case Workers advocate for women in a range of ways. We can advocate for women through things like writing support letters connecting women with other services and attending meetings with other services.
Our Case Workers, work with women to explore if there are other services they would like to know more about or get support from. We can refer women to a range of counselling, legal and other support services. Our Case Workers also work collaboratively with the range of other services in Alice Springs.
WoSSCA may support with financial or material relief for women in crisis. We understand that there are many things that families are carrying with them, and that financial relief can assist with this load.
If women are feeling unsafe and need to talk to someone outside of the hours of our Outreach services; this is 9:00am – 4:00pm from Monday to Friday, please contact the Case Workers at the Crisis Accommodation Services. Our Crisis Accommodation Service is open 24 hours, 7 days a week. They can talk with women about what is happening and make a safety plan with them.
